Popular chain with focus on chicken fingers, active community involvement, prepares for March 17 grand opening in Pharr
PHARR, TX (March 11, 2016) – It’s been a long time coming, but chicken finger lovers in the Rio Grande Valley can finally circle their calendars for the arrival of the area’s first Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers.
The popular Louisiana-based restaurant company known for its ONE LOVE – quality chicken finger meals – will hold its grand opening on Thursday, March 17, at 2043 Interstate Highway 2, at the intersection of S. Jackson Road and W. Kelly Avenue, in Pharr. Local residents should not be surprised if loyal fans – affectionately known as “Caniacs” – decide to campout overnight to be the first in line for their favorite chicken fingers.
Grand opening festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Pharr Economic Development Corporation, other local dignitaries and Raising Cane’s executives.
First-time visitors will be treated to traditional cheers and other high-energy chants to launch the location in unique Cane’s fashion, compliments of its 65-70 newly hired crewmembers. Doors open to the public at 10 a.m.
To add to the opening-day excitement, high school bands and cheerleaders representing the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District will be performing outside the restaurant from 10 -11 a.m. Raising Cane’s is a proud Founding Partner of the PSJA ISD.
As if that’s not enough, the first 20 paying, dine-in customers ages 13 and older will receive Free Cane’s for a Year! In addition, the first 100 paying, dine-in customers ages 13 and older will receive a free Cane’s Pharr T-shirt, along with a voucher for a free Box Combo – containing four fresh, never ever frozen chicken fingers, Texas toast, secret recipe Cane’s sauce, coleslaw, crinkle-cut fries and a drink – that may be redeemed on a subsequent visit.
“I can’t tell you how excited and proud I am to be able to introduce Raising Cane’s to the great people of South Texas,” said General Manager Isaac Vela, who was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley. “Even though this is our first restaurant in the Valley, we already have a lot of Caniacs here, and I have a feeling we’ll have a whole lot more before long!”
Founded by Todd Graves in 1996 and named for his yellow Labrador, Raising Cane’s recently earned the distinction of being among the Top 10 quick service restaurant chains in the nation for 2015, according to the authoritative Sandelman & Associates Quick-Track study, based on food quality, customer service, cleanliness and other important factors.

On Wednesday, March 9, Vela and his crewmembers volunteered at the Food Bank of Rio Grande Valley, sorting food and filling donation bags for the center.
“At Raising Cane’s, community service is in our DNA,” said Vela. “My crew and I were honored to pitch in at the food bank as our pre-opening service project, but we’re just getting started! In addition to continuing our support of our local schools, we will be getting very involved with other organizations in the area over the weeks, months and years ahead.”
Two more Raising Cane’s restaurants are now under construction across the Valley, in Brownsville and Weslaco.
Hours of operation at the new Pharr restaurant are Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. In addition to being the first Raising Cane’s in the Valley, this marks the 87th in the Lone Star State and the 258th nationwide.
