Residents of a South Dallas neighborhood, including members of nearby Friendship-West Baptist Church, had been praying for a desirable business to open on a vacant site near Wheatland and I-20. They had even banded together recently to keep a payday loan store from opening there.
Next Tuesday, the community will join in the celebration as a brand new Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers opens its doors on the site at 8150 South Hampton Road in South Dallas.
The popular Louisiana-based restaurant company known for its ONE LOVE® – quality chicken finger meals – will host an official ribbon-cutting ceremony beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 16, featuring representatives of the Dallas ISD, other local community leaders and the Carter High School Band and Cheerleaders. First-time visitors will be treated to traditional cheers and other high-energy chants to launch the location in unique Cane’s fashion, compliments of its 45-50 newly hired crewmembers. Doors open to the public at 10 a.m.
To add to the opening day excitement, the first 20 paying, dine-in customers ages 13 and older will receive Free Cane’s for a Year! In addition, the first 100 paying, dine-in customers ages 13 and older will receive a free Cane’s Dallas T-shirt, along with a voucher for a free Box Combo – containing four fresh, never ever frozen chicken fingers, Texas toast, secret recipe Cane’s sauce, coleslaw, crinkle-cut fries and a drink – that may be redeemed on a subsequent visit.
“Every Raising Cane’s opening is special in its own way, but this one is especially gratifying because we know that people in this very neighborhood were literally praying for us to come here,” said Area Director Luke Overman. “That’s pretty tough to beat, so as you can imagine, we are really looking forward to opening our doors on Tuesday. We’ve already formed a great relationship with Carter High School and other organizations here, and we’re only just beginning our outreach in the area.”
During Tuesday’s grand opening, Overman will present a check for $5,000 to Fred Davis, principal of David W. Carter High School, reflecting Raising Cane’s initial support for the school.
In addition, roughly 20 Raising Cane’s crewmembers recently volunteered at Youth World Dallas Learning Center, painting the computer lab and music hall for the non-profit organization that impacts “at-risk” children by inspiring hope for their future and relieving economic burdens.
“Youth World is a truly special organization helping meet critical needs in our community, so we were really proud to support them during our pre-opening volunteer event,” said Overman.
Raising Cane’s has likewise lent its support to the Dallas Youth Sports Association’s soccer and baseball programs, churches in the area and other organizations.
From Feb. 16 through 23, customers of the newest Raising Cane’s will also be invited to participate in the company’s “Give Back Giveaway” tradition, in which one lucky customer will win a $1,000 donation to his or her local charity of choice, along with Free Cane’s for a Year.

The latest grand opening marks the 33rd Raising Cane’s in the DFW Metroplex, the 85th in Texas and the 254th in the U.S. Hours of operation are Sunday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
