Raising Cane’s Preps for Weslaco Debut

Popular restaurant brand with focus on chicken fingers, community involvement, to celebrate grand opening June 21

WESLACO, TX (June 15, 2016) – They arrived first in Pharr. Then came Brownsville.

Next Tuesday, chicken finger lovers in Weslaco will get their very own Raising Cane’s!

The popular Louisiana-based restaurant company known for its ONE LOVE® – quality chicken finger meals – will hold its third grand opening in the Rio Grande Valley on Tuesday, June 21, at 1100 N. Westgate Drive, just down the street from Weslaco High School.

Local residents should not be surprised if loyal fans – affectionately known as “Caniacs” – decide to campout overnight to be the first in line for their favorite chicken fingers.

Grand opening festivities begin at 9:30 a.m. with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted by the Weslaco Chamber of Commerce – including Daryl Smith, the Chamber’s Chief Red Coat Ambassador – along with representatives of Weslaco High, Weslaco East High and other local dignitaries. First-time visitors will be treated to traditional cheers and other high-energy chants to launch the location in unique Cane’s fashion, compliments of its 50-60 newly hired crewmembers. Doors open to the public at 10 a.m.

To add to the excitement, the first 20 paying, dine-in customers ages 13 and older will receive Free Cane’s for a Year! In addition, the first 100 paying, dine-in customers ages 13 and older will receive a free Cane’s Weslaco T-shirt, along with a voucher for a free Box Combo – containing four fresh, never ever frozen chicken fingers, Texas toast, secret recipe Cane’s sauce, coleslaw, crinkle-cut fries and a drink – that may be redeemed on a subsequent visit.

“All of us at Raising Cane’s love South Texas, and it’s really cool to know that South Texas loves us back,” said General Manager Carlos Cantu, whose entire extended family was born and raised in Weslaco. “My crew and I can’t wait to open our doors here in Weslaco and to share our ONE LOVE with Caniacs old and new from all across the Valley.”

Founded by Todd Graves in 1996 and named for his yellow Labrador, Raising Cane’s recently earned the distinction of being among the Top 10 quick service restaurant chains in the nation for 2015, according to the authoritative Sandelman & Associates Quick-Track study, based on food quality, customer service, cleanliness and other important factors.

In addition to its focus on chicken fingers, Raising Cane’s is renowned for its commitment to active involvement in its local communities. On Wednesday, June 15, Cantu and his fellow crewmembers volunteered with the Boys & Girls Club of Weslaco, where they played games with the kids and helped organize materials for the Club’s upcoming facility move.

“We were proud to pitch in at the Boys & Girls Club for our pre-opening service project,” said Cantu. “They’re an outstanding organization that does incredible work here in Weslaco. But we’re just getting started with our support of the local community. We’ve also begun working with the local high schools, and we’ll be getting more and more involved with other great organizations in the area in the weeks and months ahead.”

Hours of operation at the new Weslaco restaurant are Sunday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. When it opens, it will be the 94th Raising Cane’s in the Lone Star State and the 272nd in its nationwide system.
